As COVID 19 is spreading across the country, the Indian government has recently released a mobile app for its citizens to control the rate of Coronavirus infections. Now, you might be thinking "What is it?", "Why should we use it?" or "How to install it?". So, I have made this simple guide on the 'Aarogya Setu App', for you!
What is the "Aarogya Setu app"?
Aarogya Setu is a mobile application developed by the
Government of India to connect essential health services with the people
of India in our combined fight against COVID-19.
The App is aimed at
augmenting the initiatives of the Government of India, particularly the
Department of Health, in proactively reaching out to and informing the
users of the app regarding risks, best practices, and relevant advisories
pertaining to the containment of COVID-19.
What are its features?
A feature, known as Aarogya Setu tracks, will generate a social graph to find if you have interacted with someone who could have tested COVID 19 positive, using your phone's Bluetooth and GPS capabilities.
Using the same technology, the app will also alert you if someone you came in close proximity of, even unknowingly, tests COVID 19 Positive.
The alerts given by the app are accompanied by instructions on how to self isolate, what to do if you have developed symptoms of the disease that may need help and care, etc.
Benefits of the Aarogya Setu app
The main benefit of the Aarogya Setu is that it will inform you if you have crossed paths with someone who has tested Covid 19 positive.
You will also receive tips for COVID 19 prevention, proper ways to do them like self-isolation, etc, and more.
It also informs you about the advisories made by the government.
Till now, Aarogya Setu is available in 11 languages, more might be added in future releases.
Disadvantages of the app.
As the Aarogya Setu app is in the development phase, it may have many problems.
The App does not provide the exact location of the person who had tested positive for Covid 19
It drains out the battery quickly that forces us to turn off the app
these are some of the problems reported until I know.
Anyway, all the problems might be removed by the app development team in future releases. The government is appreciating all who are helping to detect these problems
How to Install and use the app
Aarogya Setu app can be easily be downloaded and install in both Android and IOS smartphones, from Google Playstore and AppStore respectively.
- First search>> Aarogya Setu in Playstore or Appstore
- When the page about it loads, click on Install.
- After Installing, Just open and Use Aarogya Setu.
The app will contain Instruction for using It.

Open the app
Switch on Bluetooth & GPS
Set location sharing to always
Now the app will automatically run in the background and will give you updates! **More info is in the app**

In my opinion, you should download Aarogya Setu. It is a small but a good step preventing COVID 19. And it is greatly advised by the Indian government to share the app to everyone you know.
